The East Africa Philanthropy Network (EAPN) is thrilled to announce the second round of the Tanzania Philanthropy Forum, anchored under the theme, ‘‘Synergy in the Digital Age: Pioneering Collaborative Philanthropy.’’ We warmly invite you to join us for this captivating gathering at the Delta Hotel in Dar-es Salaam, Tanzania, on the 21st of September, 2023 from 8am-5pm.
Tanzania, with its rich cultural and ecological diversity, has always held a deeply rooted tradition of giving and community support. From the spirit of Harambee (Swahili for ‘all pull together’) to local Chama groups (informal cooperative societies), the essence of collective effort for communal benefit has been ingrained in the country’s ethos for generations.
Yet, as with many global sectors, Tanzanian philanthropy is experiencing a model shift. The rapid digital transformation sweeping across the globe is reshaping how we interact, transact, and collaborate. Mobile penetration in Tanzania, which soared past 80% in the last decade, is testament to the nation’s digital leapfrogging. The success stories of mobile money platforms l have not just revolutionized financial inclusion but have underscored the potential that digital solutions hold for diverse sectors, including philanthropy.
In this dynamic scenario, the concept of collaborative philanthropy is gaining momentum. The age-old Tanzanian spirit of collective effort is finding new avenues in the digital realm. Digital platforms are breaking down silos, fostering conversations between stakeholders, and catalyzing joint initiatives with multiplied impact. When multiple entities pool resources, knowledge, and expertise, the resulting synergy can tackle large-scale challenges with unprecedented effectiveness.
However, this transition is not without its challenges. Bridging the digital divide, ensuring data privacy and security, and cultivating trust in virtual platforms are some of the hurdles the Tanzanian philanthropic sector must navigate. As we stand on the brink of this exciting intersection of tradition and modernity, the Tanzania Philanthropy Forum offers an invaluable opportunity. It’s a chance to harness the collective wisdom of diverse stakeholders, explore the potential of digital tools, and chart a course for a collaborative and tech-empowered philanthropic future for Tanzania.
